Flight Findings is a free map and archive of aviation accidents and incidents. By using the site you agree to these terms. They're short, and written to be read.

What the records are, and aren't

The records come from public sources, mainly the NTSB and Wikipedia, and Flight Findings joins, cleans and places them on the map. The collection is partial: many occurrences are missing, and a record can be wrong where its source is wrong or where our processing is. Records marked unreviewed haven't been checked against their source report. Counts on the site are counts of records, not accident rates, and don't measure how safe an aircraft, airline or airport is.

The site is for exploring and research. Don't rely on it for decisions about flight safety, maintenance, insurance, legal matters or anything else where an error could cause harm. The official investigation report is the authoritative account; each record links to its source. About the data explains how records are made.

Reusing what you find

You're welcome to cite, quote and link to anything on the site, and to use individual records in articles, research and teaching. Please credit Flight Findings with a link.

The sources keep their own terms. NTSB data and report text are public domain. Text from Wikipedia is under CC BY-SA 4.0, so reusing it means crediting its authors and sharing under the same licence. Town positions from GeoNames are under CC BY 4.0.

What Flight Findings adds (the corrections, categories, positions and summaries, the way records are joined, and the site itself) took a lot of work. Don't copy the collection, or a large part of it, to publish or sell it as your own database or service.

Automated access

The site's API is there so the map works and so people can build small things with it. Keep automated requests within its rate limits and don't try to get around them, for example by spreading requests across many addresses. Don't do anything that slows the site down for other people. If you need more, write to us.

Supporters

Supporting Flight Findings is a subscription, monthly or yearly, that removes ads and adds supporter tools such as export. Payment runs through Stripe, and Link, a Stripe company, is the seller of record: your purchase is from Link, its terms apply to the payment, and it handles receipts, tax and payment questions.

• The subscription renews automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. You can cancel any time from Support or at link.com, and it stays active until the end of the period you've paid for.
• If you were charged by mistake or something doesn't work, write to us and we'll sort it out. Refunds are made through Link.
• If the price goes up for new supporters, existing supporters keep their price for as long as they stay subscribed.
• Supporter tools can change as the site grows. Exports are limited to 10,000 records each and 5 a day, and are for your own use under the same reuse terms as the site.
• Ad-free is saved in your browser, not an account, and is for you: don't share or resell it.

Ads

Free pages carry ads from Google AdSense. Flight Findings doesn't choose individual ads and doesn't endorse what they offer. Privacy explains what the ads collect and the choices you have.

No guarantees

The site is provided as it is, without any promise that it's complete, accurate or always available. As far as the law allows, Flight Findings isn't liable for losses that come from using the site or its data, and if we are liable to a supporter, it's for no more than what they paid in the last twelve months. Nothing here takes away rights you have by law as a consumer.

Changes and contact

When these terms change, this page changes and the date at the top moves. A change to what supporters get or pay applies to a subscription from its next renewal, never partway through a period already paid for.
