Privacy

Flight Findings has no accounts and no analytics, and its own code sets no cookies. The ads are the exception: they come from Google AdSense, which uses cookies and similar technology.

Advertising

Ads on this site are served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies, device identifiers and similar technology to show ads, limit how often you see the same one, measure how ads perform and detect fraud. That includes showing ads based on your visits to this site and other sites. Google, not Flight Findings, decides what it collects for this, and its page on how it uses information from sites that use its services explains it.

If you're in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google's consent message asks before any advertising cookie is set. If you say no, you may still see ads, but they won't be personalised. You can change your answer at any time: open your privacy settings (the link is also at the bottom of the map).

Wherever you are, you can turn off personalised ads from Google in My Ad Center, and from other ad companies that take part at aboutads.info or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.

Supporters who pay to remove ads get no ad code at all: their browser never loads AdSense, so none of the above applies to them.

Stored in your browser

Apart from the advertising cookies above, the site keeps a few settings in your browser's own storage. None of them is sent to us, and clearing your browser storage removes them.

• Map style: the basemap you picked, so the map opens the same way next time.
• Map position: where the map was pointed, so it opens where you left it. It's ignored after 30 days.
• A closed ad band: if you close the ad band under the map, it stays closed until you close the tab.
• A supporter pass, only if you pay to remove ads: a signed note saying this browser is ad-free until a date, and which Stripe customer it belongs to. Every few days your browser sends it to us to check the subscription is still running, and gets a new one back.

The map

Map tiles and place labels come from OpenFreeMap, and the satellite view from the US Geological Survey. Your browser fetches them directly, so those services see your IP address and which part of the map you're looking at, as any website you load would.

Hosting and what our servers see

The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any host, Cloudflare handles every request, including your IP address, and keeps short-lived technical logs (up to a week) that we use only to find and fix problems. To keep the site available, Cloudflare's rate limiter counts requests per IP address over a minute; we don't store those counts.

View counts. When you open a record, your browser tells us which record it was, once per visit. We add one to that record's count for the day and keep nothing else: no IP address, no browser details, no cookie, nothing that links one view to another. The counts only rank the “Most viewed” list and are deleted after 90 days. Views from search engines and other bots aren't counted, and neither is yours if your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.

Supporters

Payments are handled by Stripe, whose Link service is the seller of record and deals with tax, receipts and payment questions. You pay on Stripe's site and we never see your card. There's no account: for each subscription we keep the Stripe customer and subscription ids, the email address you gave at checkout, whether the subscription is active and the date it's paid until. When a subscription ends, we delete these details 30 days after the last day it covered; Stripe and Link keep their own records of the payment.

We use that email address for one thing: when you ask to restore ad-free on another device, we send it a single email with a link, through the email service Resend. No newsletters, and it isn't shared with anyone else. A restore link works once, within 24 hours; we keep only a fingerprint of it, deleted a week after it expires. Stripe and Link have their own privacy policies for what they collect at checkout.

Reporting a problem or a missing occurrence

“Report a problem” on a record, and “Suggest a missing occurrence” when a search finds nothing, open your own email app with a message already filled in. The site doesn't send or keep these messages. We use your email address only to reply, and never publish it.

The records themselves

The records come from public NTSB data and Wikipedia, and are shown as those sources publish them, including names that appear in NTSB narratives. Private aircraft owners are labelled as private individuals. If a record names you or someone close to you and you'd like it looked at, get in touch and we'll review it. Your rights and contact

You can ask what we hold about you, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. Apart from supporters' details, we hold nothing that identifies you. For advertising data, Google is responsible, and My Ad Center is the place to see and manage it.
