The Vockerode power station air accident occurred on 22 July 1960. On this day, an Ilyushin Il-14P of the Air Forces of the National People's Army crashed after colliding with a chimney of the Vockerode power station. Seven people died in the incident.
Accident sequence
The aircraft took off from Dessau at 7:30. Although the weather conditions were deteriorating noticeably, the captain decided to conduct the flight under visual flight rules below the cloud cover instead of having the aircraft climb under instrument flight.
