On the evening of 1 August 2022, a Piper 28-161 crashed nose-first in Kampung Sungai Rokam, on Jalan Bercham on the south bank of the Kinta River, Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia, killing 1 and injuring 1 of the two people on board.
Course of events
The aircraft took off at 8:05 pm on the 1st from a flight school near Sultan Azlan Shah International Airport; shortly afterwards, at around 8:07, air traffic controllers received a Mayday call, after which the aircraft crashed, plunging nose-down vertically into the ground of a lane beside a drain in front of houses below a road. At 8:10 the police and the Fire and Rescue Department received reports and rushed to the scene. At 9:25 one person was rescued, conscious. The other person was rescued a little later but was no longer breathing; both were taken to ms (Ipoh Central Hospital).
