Beijing Capital Airlines Flight 5759 accident

On the morning of 28 August 2018, Beijing Capital Airlines Flight 5759 flew from Beijing to Macau; while landing at Macau International Airport, the aircraft encountered wind shear, and on touchdown the aircraft experienced, damaging the nose landing gear and engines. The crew then decided to go around, declared an emergency, and finally diverted to Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport. After landing, 5 passengers were injured during the evacuation.

Course of the accident

On the morning of 28 August 2018, Beijing Capital Airlines Flight 5759 was operated by an Airbus A320 registered B-6952 from Beijing to Macau. There were 9 crew and 157 passengers on board. At 8:17 the aircraft took off from Capital Airport. At 11:16 the aircraft attempted to land at Macau Airport, but without success. After the aircraft went around, the pilots reported a landing gear failure, then declared "Mayday" and set the transponder code to 7700 (aircraft emergency), requesting a diversion to Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport. To allow the aircraft to land safely, Bao'an Airport suspended takeoffs and landings on runway 16/34. At 11:58 the aircraft touched down on runway 34 at Bao'an Airport. At 12:13 the evacuation of passengers was complete; during the evacuation 5 passengers felt unwell and were sent to hospital for examination.

Afterwards some passengers recalled that on landing the aircraft "bounced twice very heavily" and "there was clearly fire from the engine", but the flight attendants kept reassuring the passengers and organised their evacuation after landing, and the airline also proactively discussed compensation arrangements with the passengers.
