On 14 June 2016, a Su-30 MK2 fighter aircraft of the Vietnam People's Air Force departed from Sao Vàng Airport (Thọ Xuân, Thanh Hóa) for a training exercise, and then lost contact when about 25 km from the mainland at Diễn Châu (Nghệ An).
