The Mariquita Piper Navajo crash was an aviation accident that took place at 10:30 on 4 December 2014. The crashed light aircraft, a Piper PA-31 Navajo belonging to the company Nacional de Aviación, had taken off from the city of Bogotá. Its destination was José Celestino Mutis Airport, located in the town of Bahía Solano Chocó, on a passenger transport flight.
The accident was caused by failure of the engines, when the aircraft suddenly crashed into a forest near Mariquita airport, during the course of the flight. 3 passengers (5 minors), the pilot and the co-pilot of the company Nacional de Aviación died in the accident. Prior to the accident the pilot notified the Mariquita airport controller that he was going to make an emergency landing due to the engine failure but, minutes later it crashed near the airport.
