On Millon Air Flight 705 (flight number: OX705), which was operated by Millon Air for the Guatemalan Lineas Aereas Mayas, a Douglas DC-8-54F crashed on 28 April 1995 while landing at La Aurora Airport in Guatemala City. The aircraft overran the end of the runway and plunged into a residential area, killing six people on the ground.
Accident sequence
There was light rain during the aircraft's approach to Guatemala City. The approach was carried out as an instrument flight. The pilots received clearance to land on runway 19 of the airport. At 11:43 local time, after two hours and 28 minutes of flight time, the pilots touched the aircraft down at a speed of 135 knots 5300 feet (approx. 1615 metres) before the end of the runway, i.e. 2300 feet (approx. 700 metres) beyond the end of the touchdown zone.
