NTSB narrative

The helicopter was substantially damaged following a loss of control while landing. The accident occurred during an off airport landing on uneven, soft terrain in gusty wind conditions. The pilot set the back of the skids down and was lowering the nose when the helicopter rocked "deeply" forward, then back and to the left. The helicopter then rolled over coming to rest on its left side. The pilot reported the local winds were at 15 knots, gusting to 25 knots.

Probable cause

Loss of control on the ground due to aircraft control not being maintained by the pilot. Contributing factors were the gusting winds and the uneven ground.

  • Unreviewed is an editorial label, not an investigation status. API-sourced is not report-checked or human-reviewed. Explicit event totals are used without summing aircraft injury tables; onboard allocation is withheld. Unknown values remain unknown. The operation category is mapped from the NTSB-reported FAR part and has not been reviewed.
  • Filled from the NTSB case API where the bulk record had no value: investigation status, coordinates. Values present in the bulk record are kept.
  • The date is the local date, which is the same as the UTC date the NTSB stores.
  • API snapshot SHA-256: f816eb0754214805cdf9ed67f3f3ed621fa5f4fdba481a89e0b106df6aaef285; retrieved 2026-09-22T03:19:56.279Z.
  • Corrected after a review of the NTSB narrative, which states these values explicitly: damage. The narrative states "The helicopter was substantially damaged following a loss of control while landing" (it rolled onto its left side; no fire or destruction is described), not destroyed.
