NTSB narrative
THE PLT STATED THAT WHEN IN NORMAL CURISE AT 3000 FT OVER CASTLE MARINA ARPT HE NOTICED EXCESSIVE OIL AND CYLINDER HEAD TEMPS. A CONCURRENT SMALL AMOUNT OF SMOKE WAS EMANATING FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHICH PROMPTED THE PLT TO EXECUTE A PRECAUTIONARY LNDG AT CASTLE MARINA. WHILE TAXIING FROM LDG, THE SMOKE FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL THICKENED. THE PLT SHUT DOWN THE SYSTEMS AND ENGINE (WHICH HAD CONTINUED TO RUN NORMALLY), AND EVACUATED THE AIRPLANE. FLAMES THEN ENGULFED AND DESTROYED THE CABIN AREA AND INST PNL. A MECHANIC DISCOVERED A CRACKED OIL PRESSURE GAGE LINE. THIS LINE IS SITUATED ABOVE THE TAIL PIPE AND IS ADJACENT TO A WIRE BUNDLE THAT POWERS THE ENGINE INSTRUMENTS. THE CRACK OCCURRED UNDER THE REDUCTION FITTING NUT, AND METALLURGICAL EXAMINATION REVEALED EVIDENCE OF OVERTIGHTENING.

- Unreviewed is an editorial label, not an investigation status. API-sourced is not report-checked or human-reviewed. Explicit event totals are used without summing aircraft injury tables; onboard allocation is withheld. Unknown values remain unknown. The operation category is mapped from the NTSB-reported FAR part and has not been reviewed.
- Filled from the NTSB case API where the bulk record had no value: investigation status. Values present in the bulk record are kept.
- The date is the local date, which is the same as the UTC date the NTSB stores.
