NTSB narrative

THE A.C. GENERATOR MOUNTED ON THE LEFT ENGINE FAILED AND RESULTED IN AN IN-FLIGHT FIRE. THE CAPTAIN ELECTED TO SHUT DOWN THE LEFT ENGINE AND DIVERT THE FLIGHT TO THE SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI REGIONAL AIRPORT. A SINGLE ENGINE PRECAUTIONARY LANDING WAS COMPLETED WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE. THE CREW OF THREE AND 8 PASSENGERS ONBOARD WERE NOT INJURED. RESEARCH REVEALED THAT 51 A.C. GENERATOR FAILURES OR MALFUNCTIONS HAD BEEN DOCUMENTED FOR THE SAAB 340 AIRCRAFT WITHIN THE PRECEDING 24 MONTHS.

  • Unreviewed is an editorial label, not an investigation status. API-sourced is not report-checked or human-reviewed. Explicit event totals are used without summing aircraft injury tables; onboard allocation is withheld. Unknown values remain unknown. The operation category is mapped from the NTSB-reported FAR part and has not been reviewed.
  • Filled from the NTSB case API where the bulk record had no value: investigation status. Values present in the bulk record are kept.
  • The date is the local date, which is the same as the UTC date the NTSB stores.
  • API snapshot SHA-256: 5350c583c12daed07f5a855106d0c4ca91e881ff5610cf6adea78280a709ff30; retrieved 2026-09-18T19:17:21.074Z.
