Approach
First occurrenceThe single coded event the NTSB judges best describes what happened (records from 2008 on). Older records name the first occurrence in the sequence instead. Glossary
Loss of control in flight
Also codedOther events the NTSB coded in the sequence, such as a wire strike after a loss of power. Flight Findings uses them for its kinds of event. Glossary
Stall/mush
DamageDestroyed: beyond practical repair. Substantial: damage that affects the structure, performance or handling and normally needs major repair. Minor: less than that. Glossary

Cause areas

  • Pilot in command › Airspeed(vs), not maintained
  • Pilot in command › Stall/mush, inadvertent

Approximate · Coordinates as recorded by the NTSB; no uncertainty radius is established.

NTSB narrative

THE UNLICENSED PILOT WAS PRACTICING TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS ON A DESERTED ROAD IN THE UNLICENSED AIRPLANE. HE STATED THAT ' THE WING FOLDED IN ON ME ' AND THE AIRPLANE CRASHED. EXAMINATION OF THE AIRPLANE REVEALED THAT THE WING AND WING ATTACHMENT STRUCTURE WAS INTACT. THE AIRPLANE FUSELAGE APPEARED TO BE DEFORMED CONSISTENT WITH A NOSE LOW, VERTICAL IMPACT.

Probable cause

WAS THE FAILURE OF THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND TO MAINTAIN AIRSPEED RESULTING IN AN INADVERTENT STALL AT AN ALTITUDE INSUFFICIENT FOR RECOVERY.

  • Unreviewed is an editorial label, not an investigation status. API-sourced is not report-checked or human-reviewed. Explicit event totals are used without summing aircraft injury tables; onboard allocation is withheld. Unknown values remain unknown. The operation category is mapped from the NTSB-reported FAR part and has not been reviewed.
  • Filled from the NTSB case API where the bulk record had no value: investigation status. Values present in the bulk record are kept.
  • The date is the local date, which is the same as the UTC date the NTSB stores.
  • API snapshot SHA-256: 171d89e2c21a9da4d502b5cb13a56b10e625591dfcc84fac5983cbf33653b18a; retrieved 2026-09-21T13:58:41.736Z.
  • Corrected after a review of the NTSB narrative and the aircraft's make and model, which establish these values: aircraft category. AIR CREATION GTX TRIKE GTX TRIKE is a weight-shift (trike); the manufacturer builds nothing else. The NTSB MDB codes it AIR (Airplane), which is how the aircraft was registered rather than what it is.
